14 KPATA Mini Grants have been awarded since February 2011 with funds through a KPATA grant from United Methodist Health Ministry Fund entitled “Fitness & Nutrition of Young Children”. The mini grants are for projects using information received through the KPATA trainings which include “Breastfeeding Support, the Parent Educator’s Role”, “The Feeding Relationship”, and the Parents as Teachers Nutrition and Fitness curriculum.

Breastfeeding Support Groups Project

The United Methodist Health Ministry Fund grant was also used to fund Breastfeeding Support Groups in Abilene, Hays, Paola, Atchison, Tonganoxie and Holton Kansas. The groups were led by either a La Leche League or WIC trained breastfeeding specialist. Each group was paired with a PAT parent educator to serve as a support mentor for the group. The groups were offered to all prenatal new mothers in the community as well as to mothers in PAT.
